Welcome to our first entry in what we hope will become a regular forum for the members of the Magic Collectors’ Association, and for those interested in magic history and collecting.
We plan on posting updates and information germane to the group: news of publications, notable sales and auctions, reviews, exhibition and conference news.
This first entry is to give you a heads-up on dates for our 41st Annual Magic Collectors’ Conference. As many of you know, our gathering this year is May 13 -15 at the Westin O’Hare Hotel, Chicago. We will be honoring two special guests – George Daily and Mike Caveney, and their stellar contributions to magic and collecting. We will also be announcing the roster of speakers and other special events for the Conference from time to time on this blog. Stay tuned!
For now, it is important to note that, unlike recent years, registration is limited because of the size of the theatre where we will be staging most of the events. Registration is now even more limited because, after our initial announcement of the Conference last week, 30% of the spaces have already been filled. So, to avoid disappointment, register early. You don’t have to be a member of the MCA to do so, but it helps! (You receive a discount on the cost of registration.)

The other reason for writing is to suggest that you extend your stay in Chicago while at the Conference. Although the Conference doesn’t open officially until noon on Thursday, May 13th, you might consider checking-in to the hotel, or being in the area, the night before.
For many years, a local group – the Knights of Sleights – organized a magic flea market the night before the Conference. Well, they’re back at it and we’re please to point you in their direction. It will be held just a short hop from the hotel, and if previous years are any indication, there will be bargains to be had for all.
You may also consider staying for the day after the Conference, or at least delay your departure until later that day. Potter & Potter Auctions, Inc (Gabe Fajuri and his clan), will be auctioning off Part Four of the Jay Marshall Collection on Sunday May 16th.
The preview and the auction will take place at the premises of Potter & Potter. They have also graciously offered to give each Conference attendee a copy of the auction catalogue. They produce beautiful catalogues that normally retail for $25.00. The catalogue will be part of your Conference registration kit. You will, of course, be able to view the catalogue online www.potterauctions.com well before the Conference.
So Knights of Sleights, the 41st Annual Magic Collectors’ Conference, and the auction of Part Four of the Jay Marshall Collection – sounds like a trip!
